Crypsis

Crypsis was created for He Made She Made’s exhibition Masked Intentions which invited 21 artists and designers to reimagine masks for the 21st century. Each work was required to be wearable and designed to fit the human head.

Our response, Crypsis, draws from the natural strategy of camouflage—an evolutionary adaptation that enables survival by concealing presence or aiding in the pursuit of prey. The mask explores this dual function of concealment and revelation, playing with the mask’s traditional role as both protector and transformer. Its textured surface evokes the shifting patterns of molecular structures, suggesting a continual state of transformation and adaptation within the body itself.
